Every year 800,000 women and girls die due to the lack of clean water, basic sanitation, and hygiene. Women and girls need: safe drinking water adequate sanitation menstrual hygiene facilities.
Women and girls are still treated unequally in many areas. For example, the responsibility for the care of children, the household and the collection of water often lies entirely with them. As a result, women and girls are disproportionately affected by the lack of water and toilet facilities.
When they walk long distances to the nearest water point, they have no time for school or work and are exposed to (sexual) violence.
Women and girls worldwide spend an estimated 200 million hours collecting water every day.

What is Coachability Foundation doing for better access to water and more equality?
Knowledge and awareness about the right to water and the importance of safe drinking water and good sanitation are essential. We encourage the sharing of knowledge, and women can discuss this.
Access to safe drinking water and female-friendly toilets requires good laws and inclusive policies.Coachability Foundation supports women and girls and partner organisations to pressure governments about this.
Taboos around menstruation complicate the lives of women and girls. We are working on making taboos open to discussion. We also try to work with community leaders and other influential people to remove barriers .Good menstrual health and hygiene rests on so many factors — access to clean water, access to sanitary products, better policies that help with period management, access to toilets and facilities where they can manage their periods, among others. It is important to work on all of these issues if we ever hope for better menstrual health management in Africa. The good news is that there are a lot of organisations across the continent working to help make sure girls are better supported to manage their periods.
From pushing for policies that help improve menstrual hygiene, to educating women and girls about menstruation and their bodies, Coachability Foundation working toward better period management in Africa. Every woman and girl should be able to claim her human rights to water and sanitation, resulting in gender equality and sustainable solutions.
