One Woman. One Tank. A Life Transformed.
Catherine Kagendo stands beside her water tank, her children close to her, neighbours gathered nearby. There is a quiet sense of pride in that moment—but also relief.
Until recently, Catherine’s days began before sunrise and were shaped by a single, demanding task: finding water. She would walk for hours—up to six each day—along difficult paths, carrying heavy containers back home. The water she collected was often unsafe, yet it was the only option available.
This daily reality came at a cost. Time that could have been spent caring for her children, pursuing work, or simply resting was instead consumed by survival. The physical strain was constant.
The risk to her family’s health was always present.
Today, that reality has changed.
With a water tank installed at her home, Catherine has access to clean, safe water within reach. The long journeys are no longer part of her routine. Her children are healthier. She has time—time to think beyond the immediate, time to plan, time to live with dignity.
And her impact extends beyond her own household. Around 30 people in her community now benefit from this single tank.
This is not just infrastructure. It is transformation.
The Project: “One Woman, One Tank”
Catherine’s story is the first step in a larger vision.
At Coachability Foundation, we launched the “One Woman, One Tank” initiative in Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya, with a clear purpose: to bring clean water directly to women, restoring time, health, and opportunity.
Our objective is to install 20 water tanks, each costing €400.So far, 1 tank is in place.19 more women are still waiting.
Why This Matters
In rural Kenya, the responsibility of collecting water falls primarily on women and girls. It is a daily burden that limits access to education, restricts economic opportunities, and reinforces cycles of poverty.
Unsafe water also has severe consequences for health. According to UNICEF (2023), 80% of diseases in Kenya are linked to unsafe water and inadequate sanitation.
Access to clean water changes this equation. It improves health outcomes, frees up hours each day, and creates space for women to pursue education, generate income, and actively shape their communities.
It is one of the simplest and most effective ways to create lasting, sustainable impact.
